Volunteer with the Dayton Society of Natural History

When you volunteer at a Dayton Society of Natural History location like the Boonshoft or SunWatch, you join a team of volunteers who represent multiple ages, interests, and areas of expertise. The Dayton Society of Natural History has year-round opportunities for individuals to contribute to meaningful projects and get hands-on while interacting with the community—all while having fun and meeting new people.

Follow the link below to find short summaries for all of our volunteer opportunities at Boonshoft and SunWatch. Volunteers receive a basic orientation and receive training for their specific position as they work alongside staff in their assignments. All applicants must meet the position requirements, submit an online application, and submit any extra paperwork required.

2025 Summer Teen Volunteer Applications Are Now Open Until April 1st!!!

The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery welcomes young scientists and educators to be a part of our 2025 Teen Volunteer Program this summer. Join the education team for a fun summer that aims to build and develop valuable skills in informal science instruction and public speaking. All while have a little bit of fun along the way.

This year we are excited to announce two updates to our summer program. Our regular volunteer experience title has been updated to Junior Museum Educator to better reflect the educational opportunities this volunteer position provides to our guests. This is still our main position for those looking to jump into the museum world. The second update is a new position for volunteers looking to take that next step as a Junior Camp Assistant and learn about how the museum offers an amazing summer camp experience to families.

Please read each position carefully and begin your application today by clicking the button at the top of this page.
