Boonshoft Museum of Discovery Spices Up Public Programming for National Chemistry Week
The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery is thrilled to promote the value of chemistry in everyday life through its participation in National Chemistry Week (NCW).
NCW is an annual public awareness campaign organized by the American Chemical Society (ACS) that aims to educate the public about the importance of chemistry in various aspects of everyday life, including health, food, the environment, and more. NCW is celebrated this year during the week of October 19-25, with the theme “The Hidden Life of Spices.”
Boonshoft will explore the chemistry of spices with hands-on activities for all ages, October 20-25.
Hands-on activities will include testing how our genetics influence the way we taste, writing secret messages with spices, exploring the five senses, and a spice scent-matching challenge. Throughout the week, Boonshoft educators will also be demonstrating some exciting chemistry with the “ABCs of Chemical Reactions” show at the Science Theater. For more hands-on chemistry, young scientists ages 5+ can visit the Do Lab for a color-changing chemistry activity.
